David C. Dunlap, Secretary

David Charles Dunlap began playing the organ at the age of nine. When his father considered enrolling in organ classes with the Mott Adult Education Foundation Program in Flint, Michigan, his father was too nervous to go by himself, so he took David along for moral support. They both ended up enrolling, making David the youngest person ever to study in the adult program.

He quickly surpassed his father in playing skills, and began private study in organ with several teachers. At twelve he was playing for church services in his home church, and at thirteen was asked to head the music program. He went on to study music at Mott College, coached with such “greats” as Robert Elmore and Ted Alan Worth and has served churches in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Florida.

He is a Past Dean of the Flint Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and was the founding director of the Lansing [Michigan] Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians. His forté is church service-playing, and he has conducted music workshops for church musicians as well as appearing occasionally in concert for over 35 years. He has been a guest solo artist of the Symphony of the Americas Summerfest, performing in concert with the Greek Hellenic Camerata Orchestra of Athens, Greece, the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra of Budapest, Hungary, and the Arpeggione Chamber Orchestra of Hohenems, Austria.

Mr. Dunlap serves on the Board of Directors of Musicfor America, and is the Conductor-in-Residence for local performances of Musicfor America Orchestra.

On a parallel track with music, Mr. Dunlap is a professional graphic design and layout artist whose work includes concert program books for Township Center for Performing Arts and Symphony of the Americas; magazine layouts, along with numerous local, national, and international publications.

When he’s not making music, Mr. Dunlap enjoys culinary arts — food and wine with friends, and to date, no one has died from his cooking.
